Celebrating 65 years of Serving Hawaii

May 6 is a very special day here at Foodland as it marks the 65th anniversary of the opening of our first store – and Hawaii’s first supermarket – at Market City shopping center in Honolulu. The pride all of us who work here feel can be summed up in the words of Joanna Sullivan, wife of our late founder, Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan who recently explained her excitement about our 65th anniversary saying, “I’m so proud that Foodland remains locally owned and operated and continues to ... more »

Mahalo, Honolulu!

How excited all of us were to learn that we were voted “best grocery store” by the readers of Honolulu Magazine – for the second year in a row. This recognition means a great deal to us as it came not from a panel of editors or experts, but from the people who know us, our stores, and our employees best --- all of YOU!

The Comfort of Shoyu Chicken

For those of us who grew up in Hawaii, certain local foods always stir feelings of comfort. These are the foods we think about on a cold wintry day at college and the ones we long for after night upon night of eating out when traveling. Simple and unfussy, they are foods that make us feel good -- dishes we associate with the warmth and comfort of home.

Celebrating the Grand Opening of Foodland Kapolei!

All of us here at Foodland are excited to announce the arrival of the newest member of our family -- Foodland Kapolei. If this sounds a bit like a birth announcement, that's because opening a new store really is a bit like having a baby. Not only are there the months of preparation and planning of every last detail and the steps taken to ensure the new addition will be happy and healthy, but there's also the anxiousness, excitement, and ... more »

Mahalo, Hawaii!

How excited all of us here at Foodland are that you have voted us Hawaii’s Best Grocery Store in the Honolulu Star Advertiser's People's Choice Awards - AGAIN. Your confidence and support is heartwarming, humbling, and thrilling — all at the same time. For a local company like ours, there is no greater honor than to have those people we work so hard to serve, tell us they think we are the best. Mahalo to each and every one of you. We feel truly blessed to have such great ... more »

Congratulations Chef Keoni Chang!

"And the winner is ... Keoni Chang!" "YES!" I shouted and clapped my hands before I realized that everyone at my gate at the Charlotte ariport was staring at me. But I didn't mind. They probably saw my excitement and wondered if I had won the lottery. I was so thrilled — it felt like I had, or at least that Foodland had.

Celebrating Foodland's 64th Anniversary!

This month marks the 64th anniversary of Foodland’s founding, an occasion we look forward to celebrating with all of you. Each year, our anniversary reminds us of how fortunate and blessed we are to have great customers and employees who support us. Locally owned, family businesses like ours are few and far between today (in fact, Foodland and KTA are the only locally owned supermarket chains remaining in Hawaii) and we know our company would not be here today if it were not for all of ... more »

Mahalo Honolulu

All of us here at Foodland were thrilled to learn that we were voted “best grocery store” by readers of Honolulu Magazine. What a tremendous honor this is – especially during a year in which we were faced not only with having to close our Hawaii Kai store after nearly 50 years, but also with mass merchants like WalMart and Target selling more food and our competitors opening new stores right near ours. We know that you have more choices than ever of where you do your grocery shopping, ... more »

Serving You Is the Most Important Thing We Do!

You may have noticed that here at Foodland all of us wear nametags saying, “Serving You Is the Most Important Thing I Do.” And beginning today and on weekends, you'll notice that our employees will be wearing t-shirts with this message too. The words are not a mere phrase to us, rather they are the core of our service culture, a culture devoted to putting serving customers ahead of all other tasks and dedicated to ensuring that each and every one of our customers has a positive ... more »
