Floral Care and Handling
Hi! I’m Wendy the Flower Child and am here to help you out with all of your floral questions. Everyone is always asking me how they can make their flowers last as long as possible. Here, I’ve put together a few tips for anyone who wants to get the most out of their flowers:
•Keep cut flowers cool until you can get them into water.
•Remove any leaves that will be under water in the vase.
•With stem under water, cut about an inch off the stem with a sharp knife or clippers - cut at an angle.
•Fill vase with fresh, room temperature water and arrange flowers in vase.
•Again make sure to remove any leaves that are under water.
•Display floral arrangement in a cool area - keep out of direct sunlight.
•Keep the water fresh. Change the water daily.
•Re-cut the stems every 2 or 3 days.
Spring is in the air and Foodland is happy to offer beautiful, locally grown Easter lily plants. Howard Takishita, owner of Howard’s Nurseries in Kula, Maui, is the green thumb who produces these wonderful lilies because they hold a very special place in his heart. As a young boy, Howard was the first child on Maui to be diagnosed with polio, and it was Maui’s Easter Seals Early Intervention program that helped provide therapy and support for him many years ago.

This week I am thrilled to introduce locally grown and assembled Living Garden Succulent Plants. These hardy beauties come to us from the creativity of Terri and Greg Lee who are the owners and designers of 1st Look Exteriors.
Each of the Living Garden Succulent Plants were assembled by hand by Terri and Greg themselves. It amazes me the care, attention and pride that Terri and Greg put into each and every one of these creations.
