Hawaii's Farmers & Chefs Event Featuring Chef Roy Yamaguchi

As a sponsor of the upcoming third-annual Hawaii Food and Wine Festival, Foodland is proud to host cooking demonstrations featuring Hawaii's Farmers & Chefs at three of our Foodland locations. Join us this Saturday, August 3, at 11 am at Foodland Kapolei where Chef Roy Yamaguchi of Roy's will be sharing a recipe for Curried Mahi Mahi with 'Nalo Collection and pickled Radishes from Dean Okimoto and 'Nalo Farms.

Chef Roy Yamaguchi is the co-event chair of the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival, as well as a world renowned chef and restauranteur. He's often credited as the creator of “Hawaiian Fusion® Cuisine,” a combination of exotic flavors and spices mixed with the freshest of local ingredients, always with an emphasis on seafood. Born in Tokyo, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York and opened his first Roy’s in Hawai‘i in 1988. The restaurant was soon dubbed the “crown jewel of Honolulu’s East-West eateries” by Food & Wine and added to the Condé Nast Traveler Top 50 list. There are now 32 Roy’s in Hawai‘i, the Continental United States, Japan and Guam.

Dean Okimoto, President of ‘Nalo Farms, is the featured Hawaii farmer who's specialty greens, herbs, micro’s, sprouts and tomatoes grown in Waimanalo have been enjoyed all across Hawaii in both local restaurants such as Roy's and available at your local Foodland and Sack N Save locations. Dean Okimoto has once again become the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation President, as well as continuing his role as Hawaii Agricultural Foundation Chairman, and many other agricultural, culinary, and community based organizations, committees, task forces, and boards.

Our Hawaii's Farmers & Chefs Events are a great way to meet and greet your local farmers and chefs, so we hope you'll come and check it out. We'll also be featuring an in-store Foodland gift basket giveaway for one lucky customer, so come on down and check out this fun demonstration of local 'Nalo greens and Chef Roy Yamaguchi's delicious dish.

P.S. Our very own Corporate Chef Keoni Chang will be at Foodland Farms Aina Haina on August 10, so stay tuned for more info!

Give Aloha 2013

It's been 15 years since Foodland’s Give Aloha Annual Community Matching Gifts program began. How exciting it must have been, in 1998, when the then marketing team brainstormed ideas on how to honor our late founder, Sully. A program to support the community was the logical choice as Sully was not only known for his support of local non-profits, but he had always instilled in us that we “have a responsibility to support the ... more »
