Mahalo for your Kōkua
A big mahalo to all of you who participated in our Kōkua Japan matching gifts program last month! Together, through customer donations & matching gift from Foodland & the Western Union Foundation, as well as through sales from our Kōkua Japan T-Shirts, a total of $226,568.76 will be given to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts.
Through our matching gifts program at checkout, customers donated a total of $100,834.38. Foodland and the Western Union Foundation contributed an additional $100,834.38 to match customer donations dollar-for-dollar. In addition, through sales of our Kōkua Japan which sold out at all stores statewide in just a few weeks, an additional $24,900.00 was raised to send a grand total of more than $226,000 to Japan!
We continue to be touched by the generosity of our customers and are proud that we could support your efforts by doubling your donations at checkout. We saw thousands of customers give a little or a lot to help, and we were especially amazed at the end of our program to learn that more than $21,000 was donated in spare change alone!
We want to thank each and every one of you for your contributions and participation in Foodland’s Kōkua Japan. We know that our gift is significant and will be appreciated by those in need in Japan more than we will ever know.
