Nairagi Seafood Kit
New products hit our stores every week. Some come from big manufacturers or outside vendors while others are ones we develop ourselves. Sometimes these offerings hit the mark while at other times… well, let’s just say they might not quite meet our expectations. I suppose that’s all a part of the process of learning and innovation. But sometimes, there’s an item that really WOWs --- a product that is so good we want to tell everyone we know about it. And that’s exactly what I experienced last night!
My kids love fish, but even though I love to cook just about everything, cooking fish has always scared me a bit. I worry about the smell, about overcooking it, and – of course – about making a dinner that is just not edible. But last night, my husband came home from the store with a Seafood Kit and we decided to give it a try. The kit cost $10.99 and contained 3 nice sized pieces of Nairagi, a soy based sauce, chopped cabbage, bok choy, bean sprouts, Chinese parsley, and lots of ginger. All we had to do was microwave for 6 minutes and it was ready to go. The kit could serve 3 (or two if you have big eaters) and the fish came out perfectly. In fact, my kids (who order Chinese-syle steamed fish whenever they can) loved it! You should have seen the smile on my face when my daughter said, “This is as good as any we’ve had at a restaurant!” NO KIDDING!! And it really was – tender, flavorful, moist AND less than half the price of a restaurant dish!
So… now I’m telling everyone I know about it. Because if you like fish and you want something quick, easy, and guaranteed delicious, you’ve got to try the Nairagi Seafood Kit at Foodland!!

These are the first words that came to mind for all of us at Foodland as we learned that you had voted us "Hawaii's Best Grocery Store" in the Honolulu Star Advertiser's People's Choice Awards -- for the fourth year in a row and "Hawaii's Best Poke" for the fifth year in a row. To be recognized by the customers we work so hard to serve is a tremendous honor and we are grateful to all of you for the support and confidence you have in us.
May is always an exciting month here at Foodland because it is when we celebrate the anniversary of the opening of our company's first store at Market City Shopping Center on May 6, 1948. With 32 stores and 2,500 employees throughout the state today, we've come a long way over the last 66 years. And yet, while we are pleased that our company has grown its services, stores, and customers, what makes us especially proud are the things that remain the same here at Foodland today.

May 6 is a very special day here at Foodland as it marks the 65th anniversary of the opening of our first store – and Hawaii’s first supermarket – at Market City shopping center in Honolulu. This recognition means a great deal to us as it came not from a panel of editors or experts, but from the people who know us, our stores, and our employees best --- all of YOU!
For those of us who grew up in Hawaii, certain local foods always stir feelings of comfort.
