Try our new items: Shrimp Ceviche & Salmon Poke!

We wanted to take a few minutes and let you know about a few really cool items we just started in the seafood department. We know you all love our poke department so much that we thought it would be a cool idea to add a few new items to the mix. Starting this week, you should see shrimp ceviche and fresh salmon poke in our stores.

For starters, we thought it would be really fun to celebrate some of the other international variations of poke. Traditionally, ceviche is raw fish that is marinated with vegetables, olive oil and citrus juice.

We looked at a lot of recipes and came up with a version of our own. This recipe is packed with flavor! It’s got a lot of what you’d expect in ceviche… bell peppers, serrano chiles, cilantro, onions, garlic, and lime juice.

We chose to start with shrimp because shrimp is one of our most popular seafood items. I mean, who doesn’t love shrimp?

We also added in avocado. Some recipes have, some don’t. We chose to include it because we think it smoothes things out nicely.

I really think that this dish is a great complement to our Asian based pokes. The citrus and cilantro complement but also cleanse the palate. Plus, this item goes great with beer!

Now, on to the second addition…salmon poke.

I really think this item has the potential to become one of our best sellers. Here are my reasons. The fresh salmon is so velvety and smooth when you eat it. It’s almost like eating ahi toro. Second, the flavor profile. For this one, we went straight up Asian. It has shoyu and mirin. It also has just a hint of ginger and a little bit of heat from chili flakes.

This is an awesome item with rice. I also like the idea of having this paired with a little avocado poke, or California Roll poke. It would be kind of like a deconstructed Rainbow roll.

One thing I was thinking about doing was buying some of the salmon poke and very quickly searing it so it is still rare inside and having that with rice… or even on a bed of Dean’s Greens and some Wafu dressing… anyway you get the picture.

Either way, I’m willing to bet that you will love both. So, you know what to do…. come in for a sample of each. I know you’ll walk away with a few pounds of each!
