Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Susie Weaver at Kona Dragonfruit Farm on the Big Island. Let me tell you, I have a whole new appreciation for this unique fruit. Dragonfruit is not easy to grow and requires a lot of meticulous attention. Due to this year's rainy and wet weather, this season's crop was very limited. The few flowers that did grow needed to be hand pollinated at very early in the morning, as this fruit-bearing cactus blooms while it is still dark.

During the 80's, Hawaii had about 20 dairy farms and it produced most of its own milk. However, between 1999 and 2008 many of Hawaii's dairies starting closing their doors, including four on Oahu and three on the Big Island of Hawaii.
