May is always an exciting month here at Foodland because it is when we celebrate the anniversary of the opening of our company's first store at Market City Shopping Center on May 6, 1948. With 32 stores and 2,500 employees throughout the state today, we've come a long way over the last 66 years. And yet, while we are pleased that our company has grown its services, stores, and customers, what makes us especially proud are the things that remain the same here at Foodland today.
First and foremost, we continue to dedicate ourselves to making serving customers the most important thing we do. This is a value that was instilled in us by our company founder, Maurice J. "Sully" Sullivan who regularly reminded us to "treat customers well so they will come back." Thanks to our dedicated team of employees throughout the state who take pride in putting serving customers ahead of all other tasks, we work as hard as Sully and his team did to deliver outstanding shopping experiences for customers like you.
Like Sully, we also remain committed to doing our part to make Hawaii a better place to live. Sully was passionate about giving back to the community and told us, "We have a responsibility to support the people who support us because we wouldn't be here without them." Today, we keep this value alive through programs like Give Aloha, Shop for Higher Education, Share a Holiday Feast, and more that give back to the community we care so dearly about.
Last, but not least, we are proud to remain a local company-- the only locally owned supermarket with stores across the state. Sully told us, "local companies are good for Hawaii because they have a vested interest in our community." And we believe that is true. As a company, we continue to support local farmers and businesses and look for ways to celebrate and honor all that is special about being local.
The values we continue to cherish here at Foodland are brought to life in the "Live, Love, Local " reusable canvas grocery bags you see in our stores. To us, the bags celebrate what our company is all about, while also honoring the spirit with which Foodland was founded 66 years ago.
As we celebrate our 66th anniversary, we want to sincerely thank our employees for their dedication and service and also say mahalo to all of our customers for shopping with us. We truly would not be here without you!
To thank you for your support, we are celebrating our 66th anniversary with the following:
We hope to see you in our stores soon!
