We poured wine for an event at our Mauna Lani Foodland Farms last weekend for about 200 Big Island wine enthusiasts. The hit of the show was definitely the Ernst & Company Pinotage.
Pinotage was created in South Africa by crossing Pinot Noir with Hermitage (Cinsaut). Pinotage is a uniquely South African grape variety, and has now achieved international success. Produced by a husband and wife team, Ernst and Gwenda Gouws, together have created a gem of a wine. Ernst captured the essence of this wine as he shared, "We wanted a wine designed to meet American tastes, so we offer a juicy plum and cherry fruit carried by silky tannins over a basking of integrated oak. You can enjoy it with meaty dishes or on its own."
Most of our Mauna Lani friends had never tasted a Pinotage, or even any wine from South Africa, so it was fun to get their comments on this brand new wine experience. Throughout the event, the Ernst & Company Pinotage was the most asked for and most repeatedly poured wine at Mauna Lani.
We're happy to find such a fantastic wine from South Africa, and you can find the Ernst & Company Pinotage offered exclusively at our stores modestly priced at around $10.
