I was so fortunate to get to travel through India a few years ago on a tea buying trip…it was an amazing experience that opened my mind up to a new culture and an exciting new world of flavors. One of my most vibrant memories of India is the way it smelled. Hints of cardamom, cinnamon, and curry just seemed to waft through the air and hint at flavors that I just couldn’t wait to try.
Whenever I cook up an Indian meal it’s those spices that take me back to the tea fields of Darjeeling and a world so far away.
Making up a delicious Indian meal doesn’t have to be really complicated. Here are some quick ideas to get you started.
Seeds of Change makes great tasting organic simmer sauces.
Tikka means “chicken” and Masala means “sauce.” So Tikka Masla simply means chicken sauce but you can use it with just about anything.
Saute 1 lb or so of your favorite meat, fish, or tofu until done and then add the sauce. Cover the pot and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
We love these sauces and they are great served over rice and naan bread.
You will find naan bread in our bakery department…it looks kinda like pita bread and is perfect for soaking up all that yummy sauce.
The Kitchen’s of India line couldn’t be any simpler to prepare…these are “boil in the bag” already prepared meals and side dishes.
Mashed vegetable curry is a great side sidedish with the Tikka Masala and the curry flavors complement each other well.
For a lighter vegetable choice you can prepare String beans with a little ginger and onion…simple and delicious.
Indian food can be fun, simple, and delicious. It’s a great way to mix some new flavors into your dinner ideas.
