Bag Up Hunger at Foodland!

I love to eat! I have a long list of my favorite foods and places where I enjoy eating at. I guess you could say I take eating for granted. When I realized that so many Hawaii families don’t have that luxury, I began to understand the importance of supporting our local food banks. Food banks work tirelessly to gather food and support from our communities so that they can help the thousands of individuals and families who struggle every day to feed themselves. According to a “Hunger in Hawaii 2010” report, 183,500 families benefit from the Hawaii Foodbank. That’s 14% of our state’s population.

Each year Foodland and Sack N Save commits our support to "Bag Up Hunger" with our annual in-store program. Customers are invited to make a donation of $5, $10 or $20, simply by tearing off a denomination slip from signs posted at checkout. The donations raised on each island go to the food bank on the island where the donation was made, and will help purchase the food banks’ most needed items such as canned meats and vegetables for those in need.

Bag Up Hunger at Foodland!

“I’m hungry.” This is an unfortunate, but all too common phrase, said by the thousands of people in Hawaii who struggle to find their next meal. According to the Hunger in America 2010 report by Feeding America, more than 14% of Hawaii’s population receives emergency food assistance. The face of Hawaii’s hungry ranges in all ages, from young to old, and across all ethnicities of our island population.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Jenai Wall, Foodland CEO & Chairman, recently took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by dumping a Foodland Reusable Bag filled with ice over her head and extended the challenge to the Foodland main office and all Foodland store employees across Hawaii!
