Below are some common questions and answers about our Maika`i Program. If you do not see your question below or if there was not enough information within an FAQ to answer your question, please contact us and submit your question and we will respond as soon as possible.
General Maika`i Program Questions
There is no cost to join the Maika`i Program.
Visit any Foodland/Sack N Save/Foodland Farms store and ask a cashier to apply.
Unfortunately, the answer is no. We do not currently have a way to sign up for a Maika`i Card in advance, but it’s very easy to sign up once you arrive.

Yes, however only one name can be listed on the receipt. Also a My Rewards Certificate can only be issued to the person who is the primary cardholder.
We need to have your current information so we can look up your account in our system in case you have any questions, or if you've forgotten your card and need to use the phone look up feature at the store. Additionally, we have now gone cardless with our introductory card system, and we need a phone number or a unique 10-digit code in order to create and look up cardless introductory cards. Foodland does not sell, rent, or relinquish personally identifiable information to third party vendors, suppliers or marketers.

Only Maka`i member receives special discounts and points. You must be a member to enjoy these benefits.
You will receive a permanent card once you have accumulated 150 points on your introductory card.
Earning and Tracking Maika`i Points
Earn Maika`i Points on qualifying purchases (excluding liquor, postage stamps, bus passes, gift certificates, gift cards, taxes, bottle fees and/or where otherwise stated). Points are calculated in real-time; you will always know your current standing. When you reach 150 points on your Introductory Maika`i Card you will receive a permanent card. All points earned on your Introductory Maika`i Card will be transferred to your permanent Maika`i Card.
For each dollar you spend using your Maika`i Card at Foodland/Sack N Save/Foodland Farms on qualifying purchases you'll earn one point.
Points do not expire as long as you use your card at least once within a consecutive twelve month period.
At the bottom of your receipt you will see a recap of your previous Maika`i balance, the new points you have added from your recent purchase and the total points. You can also register with foodland.com and link your Maika`i card to your account. Once you do so, you will be able to view your current point balance.
Yes, please hold onto your receipt and the next time you come into the store with your Maika`i Card please take your receipt to the customer service counter for credit.
Maika'i My Rewards Certificates
The certificate is issued at check out each time you accumulate 250 points on your Maika`i Card. The certificate can be used for 5% off a future grocery purchase, 200 HawaiianMiles or a Free/Specially Priced Product. Once the certificate has been issued, your point balance will automatically have 250 points subtracted from it. My Rewards Certificates are issued on the visit following your accumulation of 250 points.
Check the box next to the option that you want (i.e. the 5% discount, free/specially priced product, or 200 HawaiianMiles) and turn in the certificate to the cashier at checkout. You can only redeem My Rewards Certificates in a Foodland/Sack N Save/Foodland Farms store. You cannot redeem them by mailing them in or online.
Yes, please look at the upper right hand corner of the certificate for the expiration date.
My Rewards Certificates are transferrable, so yes, you may redeem a certificate that was originally issued to someone else if they give it to you. However, this only works for the 5% discount or free/specially priced product options. If you try to redeem it for HawaiianMiles, the miles will not go into your HawaiianMiles account. This is due to a system limitation. You can only link one Maika‘i Card to one HawaiianMiles account. You cannot connect a second Maika‘i Card to your HawaiianMiles account. If you try to redeem someone else’s My Rewards Certificate for 200 HawaiianMiles, the miles will be deposited into that other person’s account, not yours.
The Regal Travel program officially ended on June 30, 2011. All Regal Travel Points have now expired.
General Mobile App Questions
To update your account information, please login on the upper right corner of our website, and once logged in, select My Account also on the upper right corner of our website to edit your account information OR please contact our Maika`i department at (808) 735-7229.
No, if you already have an account on our website, you will be able to use that same account to log in to the mobile app and the Foodland website.
Product availability varies at our locations and we want to provide you with the most accurate information.
These are the same as the My Rewards Certificates issued at the register when you accumulate 250 points. When you opt-in to digital My Rewards, you will receive your My Rewards through our Mobile App and no longer at the register.
When you are ready to redeem your reward, on the Mobile App, select the reward you want to redeem and present the barcode to the cashier.
It should take no longer than 5 minutes after your transaction. You can also tap the gray refresh button to the left of the 'Scan' button underneath the Maika`i Card image.
Digital My Rewards expire exactly 6 months from the original date issued. For example, if a digital My Rewards is earned on January 1, 2014, the expiration date will be June 30, 2014. If multiple digital My Rewards are available, the oldest digital My Rewards will be redeemed first. Also, a reminder notification will be automatically sent to your Mobile App in intervals of 2 weeks before expiration, 1 week before expiration and 1 day before expiration of a digital My Rewards.

Earning HawaiianMiles at Foodland
The way our partnership with Hawaiian Airlines works is that you can receive HawaiianMiles when you earn a My Rewards Certificate. You do not earn a mile for every dollar you spend. When you shop at Foodland with your Maika‘i Card, you are earning one Maika‘i Point for every dollar you spend. When you reach 250 points, you will receive a My Rewards Certificate. This certificate is redeemable for various rewards including 200 HawaiianMiles.
Yes, you must have a HawaiianMiles account to receive HawaiianMiles through Foodland. If you don’t already have one, it’s quick and easy to sign up at www.HawaiianAirlines.com. Once you have a HawaiianMiles account, you must link your Maika`i Card number to your HawaiianMiles number at www.HawaiianAirlines.com/Foodland. You will only have to do this once. After that, you’ll be able to redeem My Rewards Certificates for HawaiianMiles. ~
Visit www.HawaiianAirlines.com or call 1-877-HA-MILES (1-877-426-4537). You can check how many miles you have with Hawaiian Airlines.
If your Maika‘i Card number begins with “422” instead of “432” this means that you have an introductory account. Once you accumulate 150 Maika‘i points, you will automatically receive a permanent card from the cashier. Your new permanent card will have a 12-digit number that begins with “432.” This is the number that you will use to register with your HawaiianMiles number at www.HawaiianAirlines.com/Foodland.
Please allow up to 6-8 weeks for the miles to appear in your account.
You will earn 3 HawaiianMiles for each reusable bag that is used that saves a plastic or paper bag from being used. So it is not how many reusable bags you have with you, but how many reusable bags are used for your groceries.
While we appreciate you not using a bag and helping reduce the number of bags used in Hawaii, our goal is to help encourage our customers to always use reusable bags. HawaiianMiles will be awarded only if a reusable bag is brought in and used. The hope is that it creates the habit of reusable bags when shopping at Foodland.
Forgotten, Lost or Stolen Maika'i Cards
If your introductory Maika`i Card has been lost or stolen, the points on that card are forfeited. Please visit the customer service counter for a new introductory Maika`i Card.
Please visit the Customer Service Counter for a replacement card. Foodland/Sack N Save/Foodland Farms cannot guarantee that Maika`i points earned on the lost or stolen card can be carried over and transferred to your new replacement Maika`i card.
Yes. At the time of check out, please use the pin pad to type in your phone number or visit the Customer Service Counter to look up your account by your first and last name and we’ll provide you with your Maika`i account number.
Simply visit the customer service counter at any Foodland, Sack N Save or Foodland Farms store. Give the clerk your Maika`i Card number or the phone number that is connected to your card, and they will be happy to make a replacement card for you.
You may return new, unused and unopened items sold and fulfilled by Foodland.com within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Return shipping costs will only be covered if the return is a result of our error. Items should be returned in their original product packaging or equivalent shipping material as well as packing slip.

Any item that is not in its original condition, is damaged, soiled, or is missing parts for reasons not due to our error is not covered under our General Returns Policy. We are not responsible for any return costs, product exchange, or reimbursement.
We'll request a refund after we receive and process your return.
Expect your refund within 4 weeks of giving your package to the return shipper (though in many cases you'll receive the refund sooner).
This time period includes:
• 5 to 10 business days for us to receive your return from the shipper
• 3 to 5 business days for us to process your return
• The time it takes your bank to process our refund request (see below for specific guidelines)
We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
If the return and refund do not appear in Your Account within 4 weeks from the day you sent us your return, please contact us for help.
Gift Cards: Gift Card orders are “Final Sale” and may not be returned at this time.
If you would like to exchange an item for a different one, please contact customer service services [at] foodland [dot] com.
Please note that it takes us 3 to 5 business days to process your order once the returns arrive at our Foodland Warehouse.
Items purchased from Foodland.com cannot be returned to a physical store (such as Foodland, Foodland Farms or Sack N Save locations). Items purchased from Foodland.com must be processed through our Foodland Warehouse return center. The address is:

Ship one to thirty five items for a standard flat rate shipping of $6 to anywhere in the United States via USPS, with the exception of gift cards & gift boxes. See below for more information about $1 Gift Card Flat Rate shipping & $6 Gift Box shipping.
Ship one to twenty Gift Cards only for a flat rate shipping of $1 to anywhere in the United States via USPS. If Gift Cards are purchased alongside other physical items on the Online Shop, i.e. Reusable Grocery Bags and or Reusable Water Bottles, $1 will be added to the Standard $6 Flat Rate Shipping.
Due to the weight of the contents of each box, we will ship one Gift Box for $6 to anywhere in the United States via USPS. Each additional Gift Box will also have $6 added for shipping. If Gift Boxes are purchased alongside other physical items on the Online Shop, i.e. Reusable Grocery Bags and or Reusable Water Bottles, $6 per gift box will be added to the Standard $6 Flat Rate Shipping.
Typically, orders received are processed within 1-2 business days and shipping times via USPS are estimated at 3-5 business days. Once your item ships from our warehouse, you will receive a Shipment Notification email with USPS tracking information. If you have not received an emailed Shipment Notification within 7-10 business days, please contact services [at] foodland [dot] com and we will provide further assistance.

Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards are valid methods of payment. Currently, Foodland Gift Cards are not accepted as a method of payment for the Online Shop.
If your Gift Card is lost or stolen, immediately call customer service at (808) 735-7388. Your Gift Card will be cancelled and we will issue a new one for the remaining balance. Lost or stolen Gift Cards cannot be replaced without the original proof of purchase. Foodland.com and its affiliates shall have no liability to you for (i) lost or stolen Gift Cards or (ii) use of any Gift Cards by third parties at Foodland & Sack N Save locations.
Coupon Acceptance Policy
At Foodland, we encourage customers to save even more by using coupons while grocery shopping at all of our Foodland, Sack N Save and Foodland Farms stores statewide. We gladly accept coupons that follow our coupon guidelines below:
- Manufacturer coupons
- Internet printable coupons
- Checkout coupons (“Catalina” coupons) issued in our stores
These coupons must follow our Coupon Acceptance Guidelines below.
Coupon Acceptance Guidelines
Coupons that are accepted:
- Must be clear and legible
- Have "Manufacturer Coupon" printed on them
- Contain a valid remit address for the manufacturer
- Have a valid expiration date and are not expired
- Have a bar code that scans at checkout
- Must be original (not duplicated, distorted, altered, scanned or photocopied)
- Free product/no purchase required coupons will only be accepted if they are pre-printed and sent via postal mail or published in media, and printed double-sided and/or on security paper
- Buy-one-get-one-free coupons and other values that have a purchase requirement
- Internet coupons must be valued at no more than $5 or the value of the product
- Manufacturer (Vendor) coupons for "Reduced Items." (The value of the coupon cannot exceed the reduced item price. If the coupon value exceeds the reduced item price, then the coupon value will match the reduced price).
Coupons that are NOT accepted include:
- Competitor coupons
- Coupons for free products (where no purchase is necessary), not meeting the requirements above
- Internet coupons that exceed $5 off or the price of the product
- Free product or no purchase required coupons printed from the Internet
- Coupons that do not meet our coupon guidelines, above
- Foodland will follow the coupon limits as stated on each coupon. If no limits are mentioned on the coupon, Foodland will accept up to 4 like coupons for the same product (all flavors combined) on the same shopping trip per day. One shopping trip is defined as a transaction at the store per day.
We reserve the right to refuse any coupon, to limit quantities in coupon usage, and to revise our policies at any time as we deem appropriate.

Yes, coupons may be combined with Foodland's Maika`i discount and promotions created by Foodland. Coupons may not be combined with any other discounts or promotional offers.
Please speak to the Store Director. Store Directors and cashiers have been trained on our coupon policy and have been instructed to follow the policy at all times. The Store Director can further assist you if you have any questions.
Each year thousands of people die or are hospitalized from influenza. Most susceptible are young children, people 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions. Influenza is easy to spread, and easier to prevent. By getting the flu shot you protect yourself from influenza, and also avoid spreading influenza to others you come in contact with.
The flu shots administered at Foodland Flu Clinics is an inactivated (“dead”) vaccine, which means that you cannot get the flu from this flu shot.
It can take up to 2 weeks for protection to develop after receiving the flu shot. From the time you receive your flu shot, protection can last up to one year. Keep in mind that you are protected from only the flu strains that are included in the flu shot that season.
Every season, scientists predict influenza strains most likely to infect people. These strains are included in that seasons flu shot, and may change from year to year. In recent years, there has been a combination of three strains including the H1N1 strain.
This season Foodland pharmacy is administering Preservative Free Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine. This season's Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine offers protection against the following 4 influenza strains:
A/California/07/2009X-179A (H1N1), A/Switzerland/9715293/2013 NIB-88 (H3N2), B/Phuket/3073/2013 (B Yamagata lineage), and B/Brisbane/60/2008 (B Victoria lineage).

Not all flu shots are the same. Some flu shots do contain the mercury preservative thimerosal. However, the flu shots administered at Foodland Flu Clinics are Thimerosal-free flu vaccines and do not contain any mercury preservative.
As soon as it becomes available in your community. In recent years, this has been as early as August.
Yes, it is okay to receive a flu shot if it has been less than one year since your last flu vaccine because the combination of strains included in the flu vaccine may change every season.
Usually October through May, but here in Hawaii we may experience a year round flu season due to tourism and climate.
Current influenza vaccines contain various amounts of egg protein, so having an allergy to eggs may cause a severe reaction. Please consult with your doctor before receiving the flu shot.
As with any other medication, there are possible side effects from the vaccine. Although the potential for serious side effects is small, most common problems are mild and last for 1-2 days. These include soreness, swelling, redness at site of injection; hoarseness; fever, aches, headache, fatigue.
