Crispy Gau Gee

Crispy Gau Gee is a fun-to-make delicious local favorite that's great to share at your next potluck or family gathering!

Servings 48 Gau Gee

Ingredients  

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 0.25 cup chopped green onion
  • 1 8-ounce can sliced water chestnuts drained(chopped)
  • 0.25 pound fresh raw shrimp, peeled and deveined(chopped fine)
  • 1 thumb sized piece of fresh ginger(peeled and chopped fine)
  • 2 cloves garlic(peeled and minced)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 48 Won Ton wrappers
  • Shoyu Mustard Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Coleman's mustard powder
  • 1 tablespoon hot water
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions 

  1. In a mixing bowl, add all ingredients except the won-ton wrappers to create pork hash mixture. Mix well.
  2. When done, lay out wonton wrappers in batches of 12 and fill each with one rounded tablespoon of mixed pork hash in center of each wrapper.
  3. Moisten finger with water and wet edges of wonton, fold in half and press edges to seal. Finish all 48 wrappers.
  4. Heat vegetable oil to 350 degrees and deep fry until wontons are golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve with shoyu-mustard sauce.
Shoyu Mustard Instructions
  1. Combine mustard and hot water and mix until it forms a paste. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add in vinegar and soy sauce. Mix well.
  3. Let sit for 10 minutes for flavors to develop.
